Instagram for complete beginners
Watch this short video and learn, step by step, how to sign up for an Instagram account.
Highlights from the video -
You can't sign up for an account on your desktop - you have to be on a mobile device.
1. Download the app, create an account and log in.
2. Click the head and shoulders icon to go to your profile page. Upload a photo, and add details to your bio. The 'website' section in your profile is the only place on Instagram you can include a clickable link, so make sure you include your blog here.
3. Click on the magnifying glass to search for friends and hashtags. To look for friends, click on the magnifying glass, then click 'USERS', then type their username in the search box. Click 'Follow' to follow them - their photos will then show up in your photostream (that's what appears when you click on the home button). To look for hashtags, click on the magnifying glass, then click 'HASHTAGS', then type the hashtag in the search box.
4. Do you want a hashtag photo project to join in? Try #Make30Photos, the 30 day photo challenge with a twist. Click here for details.
5. Double tap on a photo to 'LIKE' it. If you are scrolling through photos you can just double tap one you like to register a 'Like' - you don't have to click on it and go into that user's profile. To leave a comment, just click on the 'Comment' button underneath the photo.
6. To post a photo click on the square button in the middle at the bottom:
You can then take a photo (use the middle button), take a video (use the camera on the right), or upload a photo from your phone's camera roll (use the photo button on the left).
7. To use filters or edit before you post, scroll through the filter and editing options at the bottom of the screen.
